Official Scam Advisory: Impersonation of Staffking Recruiters

Staffking Pte Ltd would like to alert members of the public to a continued rise in scam activities involving individuals impersonating recruiters, including Staffking’s own employees.

This advisory is issued to protect jobseekers and raise awareness of increasingly sophisticated scam tactics targeting individuals in Singapore.

⚠️ Current Scam Situation

We have observed that scammers are actively:

  • Posing as Staffking recruiters

  • Offering high-paying or remote job opportunities

  • Remote work, freelance or part-time job offers with attractive pay

  • Contacting individuals primarily via WhatsApp

Notably, these scammers are now using Singapore and Malaysia phone numbers, making them significantly more difficult to identify and increasing the likelihood of victims trusting them.

They may also operate across platforms such as LinkedIn, Telegram, Carousell, and other messaging channels.

To appear credible, scammers may:

  • Use stolen company logos and branding

  • Use company UEN, recruiter’s names and license numbers which are all available on MOM Employment Agency directory available in public

  • Create fake recruiter or employee profiles

  • Misuse employee photos found online

  • While initial conversations may appear legitimate, these scams often follow structured and deceptive patterns.

⚠️ Common Scam Tactics

1. Unsolicited Messages

You may receive a WhatsApp message claiming to be from a Staffking recruiter, even though you did not apply for the role.

2. Attractive Remote Work Offers

Scammers promote flexible work-from-home roles with:

  • High income

  • Minimal or no experience required

  • Immediate hiring without proper or formal interview process

3. Moving the Conversation

You may be asked to switch to:

  • Another WhatsApp number

  • Telegram account

  • Private group chats

4. “Simple Task” Scams

Victims may be asked to perform simple online tasks such as:

  • Liking videos

  • Clicking links

  • Submitting reviews

In some cases, a small initial payment is made to build trust.

5. Requests for Money

Victims may be asked to:

  • Pay a registration fee

  • Top up an account

  • Deposit funds to unlock higher earnings

  • Purchase cryptocurrency

  • Transfer money for “verification”, “tax”, or “commission”

Legitimate recruitment agencies do NOT operate this way.

6. Overseas Job Scams

Victims may be persuaded to travel overseas for work that end up to be a scam.

Staffking does not recruit candidates for jobs in Myanmar or Cambodia. Any such requests are fraudulent.

⚠️ Evolving Scam Tactics (SPF Cases)

According to recent cases highlighted by the Singapore Police Force (SPF), scam tactics are becoming increasingly sophisticated and targeted.

These may include:

  • Posting fake job advertisements (e.g. event or concert crew roles)

  • Requesting personal details such as Full Name, NRIC, Date of Birth

  • Asking victims to sign fake documents (e.g. “PDPA agreements”)

  • Providing valid recruitment agency license numbers to appear legitimate

In more severe cases, victims may be manipulated into:

  • Changing their Singpass-registered email or mobile number

  • Allowing scammers to gain access to their accounts

This can lead to unauthorised account access and financial losses.
